have you ever seen those power heads with the little ball that is connected to the head with a small tube? i used them for salt tanks, they can be used to aerate the water & eliminate the air pump.OR on your power heads’ outlet stem simply drill a hole that can fit a standard air pump sized hose then insert the hose taking care to keep the other end of hose ABOVE water.the force from the outlet should draw air into the hose.

Effectively cleaning out your buckets/rez, when changing out the water will aid in that too.. if you use hydroton and nutes.. they need to be cleaned after use also.. DWC usually works great if you keep things clean and watch your nutrients.. but then again I have never tried DWC with tomatoes so I’m really just talkin out my ass *Big grin*

I’d stay away from miracle grow… going off your name.. I’d assume what you’re going to grow… best bet.. if you’re a noob is to ask your local hydro store they are more then happy to help.. lol.. I use General Hydroponics 3 part.. but there is plenty out there to choose from bro

I’m going to try to build this with the 3 gal bucket that fits over the 5 gal bucket so the roots don’t hang in the water. sort of like the water garden. Hopefully that will stop the root rot with tomatoes.

I have a question with this. I have been doing hydroponics for a few years now, and have done the bucket systems, and the over head drip irrigation systems. On both systems when I try and grow tomatoes I end up getting I think it’s called bloom rot, where the end of the tomato rots. I only have problems with Tomatoes, I can grow anything else without problems.

You can keep it in the bucket for the life of the plant.. The roots will grow through the mesh of the net, and pretty much fill the bucket with really long roots. I would not attempt to transplant it. There would just be too much risk in damaging the roots.

Hey, actually you don’t even have to run the air pump 24/7. I have all my pipe systems on timers, so that the air pump and water pump kick on at the same time. My bucket system DOES run the water pump 24/7, and it’s been doing great for over a month now. I don’t even have an air pump for the bucket systems, because the water falls back into the solution, creating bubbles, thereby putting oxygen back into the solution. Happy growing.

Does anyone know whether or no I should leave the water pump running 24/7, or run it intermittently? I know that the air pump should be going 24/7…. just not sure about the water pump
